Wedding Photography at Vitznau near Luzern in Switzerland
July 22, 2009 on 11:27 am | In Weddings Revealed |I was extremely excited to be asked to photograph this wedding for Celine and Benno at the weekend, over in Switzerland. This isn’t the first time I have photographed a Swiss wedding, you may recall the wedding I photographed in Meilen last summer. I arrived in Switzerland a couple of days before the wedding which gave me an opportunity to look at the venue and prepare for the day.
I was quite anxious as the weather forecast for the wedding day was heavy rain, which in the mountains really can hide the fabulous views. I was picked up nice and early and taken to the hair salon in a town called Root, where the bride was being styled and she looked very pretty indeed.
We then went back to the house where the bride was preparing, a traditional Swiss house, it really looked great.
My German is quite limited at the moment, so lucky for me the couple and most of the guests speak very good English. The majority of my photography was to capture the essence of the day, lots of casual shots.
In Switzerland it is traditional for the couple to be legally married at the town hall before their wedding day and then have a blessing ceremony a few weeks later.
The ceremony took place at Morschach and was quite high up over looking the
Vierwaldstättersee (Lake Lucerne). Unfortunately due to the weather the view wasn’t very clear and the welcome drinks would have to be indoors instead of on the terrace.
The weather was starting to clear during the drinks reception and the rain stopped, so I couldn’t resist in getting an aerial group shot of all the guests with the lake in the background.
We then took the drive back down the valley to Vitznau, a small town on the edge of the lake which also has a cable car and a train to the Rigi, a famous Swiss mountain. It was here where the wedding meal and reception took place in the Hobby Hotel in Vitznau, which also has a terrace area and a fantastic dining room with huge panoramic windows over looking the lake. It really was breathtaking!
By the evening the weather had cleared and I witnessed one of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen.
After the meal there were many events taking place for the bride and groom and although I couldn’t fully understand what was happening I got a rough idea.
It was then time for the first dance and the cutting of the cake. The food was fantastic throughout the entire wedding and I was very well looked after! As midnight arrived the bride had a special surprise for her man as it was now his Birthday. We then went outside for a Chinese lantern release over the lake.
I had an absolutely amazing time photographing their wedding and hope I managed to tell the story of their day. If you would like me to photograph your wedding please do get in touch.
