Business in Switzerland

I am very excited as I am in Switzerland for a wedding which takes place this coming weekend. I had a bit of time to see some of the sights of Zurich from the top of a forest close to where I am staying.

The walk up through the forest was great and should have loosened my legs ready for the wedding.

I met up with the couple yesterday and went to the church and venue for a reckie before their special day and to understand how a Swiss wedding may differ from one back in the UK. The church is a fantastic location with lots of daylight flowing through.

The venue called Spectroom is really interesting as it takes place in a rather exclusive furniture and antiques showroom which also boasts two bars and a large covered social area. I will be utilising some of the showroom for the Bride and Groom’s romantic photo shoot before the evening guests arrive. Here are a few of the stunning backdrops at my disposal.

The venue itself is situated just minutes from the edge of Lake Zurich, so again this will make a fabulous backdrop for some stunning photographs.

After our visit I was lucky enough to visit Rapperswil which is the town situated at the opposite end of the lake to Zurich city. Rapperswil is a very traditional looking town with lots of bars and restaurants overlooking the lake. As you can see the weather here in Switzerland is great.

I am now looking forward to the wedding at the weekend.

Another new venue to visit

One of the great things about being a photographer is the constant availability of new locations which in turn provides new photographic opportunities. One of my weddings which I will be photographing in July takes place at Brickendonbury Conference Centre which by the name lead me to a vision of a modern, government style building which would have very little outdoor opportunities. How wrong was I! This venue is new to weddings but from my visit last week is a gem set deep in the Hertfordshire countryside in a recently restored, but very traditional country house. As for the grounds, I was very impressed and could visualise wedding photograph locations with ease!

The grounds were well maintained and whilst walking around the venue with the Bride and Groom it instantly became apparent that this would a great setting for their wedding day.

For those special romantic shots there is also the backdrop of a small stream, and inside I found this great looking window and hallway. The raised balcony above the collumns will also provide me with a great angle for the aerial group shot too.

As always, I am hoping the weather will stay dry as I would like to make the most of the garden backdrops. As I offer an all day service (right through to the first dance) it does mean if rain hampers the procedings we can work around the weather and utilise any dry intervals. The indoor locations were equally great and will provide the perfect backdrop in the case of a wet day.

Because you’re Worth it!

As part of my wedding preparations, I usually visit the venues around 6 weeks prior to the wedding date to get an understanding of the layout and where the best photographic opportunities are. This visit can be with the couple if they wish, or I go and meet a key person from the venue who is aware of the couple’s format on the day. I feel it is important to do these preparations as it removes any uncertainties prior to the day.

Yesterday I went to Knebworth Barns, which is part of the Knebworth House estate for a pre-wedding visit. After a full tour of the location, I now have a much better understanding of how I can logistically arrange the wedding photographs. The venue itself is absolutely stunning and will provide me with an endless number of beautiful backdrops for the photography. Watch this space for a selection of photographs from the wedding day which will appear in a few weeks time. Below is just a taster of what’s to come.

Depending on the weather, the ceremony may be taking place out side on the lawn, or alternatively indoors inside the main barn. There is a maze, a pond with a bridge, the backdrop of Knebworth House itself and a selection of flower gardens and vine covered walkways.

I am really looking forward to photographing this wedding, as with all my up and coming Weddings. It is always exciting to come to a new venue where I’ve not photographed a wedding before and I hope to utilise on it’s potential.
