Sunny by the sea
May 26, 2008 on 5:45 pm | In General Photography | No CommentsFor the bank holiday weekend I decided to have a short break by the sea. I went to the south coast to the small seaside town of Swanage in Dorset where my folks live. While most of the UK was getting the usual wet and depressing weather which seems to be traditional of bank holidays, I was blessed with some very warm, and most of the time sunny spells.
Swanage is on the Purbeck coast, sometimes referred to as the “Jurassic Coast” as the cliffs host many fossils and geographic history. The local stone is used on many of the buildings and really does make everything look very traditional.
Sunset at night
May 22, 2008 on 10:11 pm | In General Photography | No CommentsWhilst out and about on a rehearsal meeting with a bride and groom at St. Mary’s All Saints Church at Lambourne I noticed a fantastic sunset and couldn’t resist taking some photographs. I guess once a photographer, always a photographer…
I did have a play with the exposures to get the best results from the sky and to really get some good silhouettes.
RT Weddings latest magazine advertisement
May 22, 2008 on 10:01 am | In RT Corporate | No CommentsI am always keen to change the style and ideas for my advertising and as an ex-graphic designer always put these together myself using Adobe Photoshop CS (http://www.adobe.com). Although I have experience with QuarkXpress (http://www.quark.com/) and Adobe Illustrator, I now find Photoshop can do everything I need quickly and easily. With my latest halfpage advert for “Your Herts & Beds Wedding” (June/July 08) edition and “An Essex Wedding” (July/August 08) magazines I have chosen to go with a more minimalist approach in comparison to my previous designs and utilise some of my evening portraiture shots which reflect the emotion and fun aspect of the celebration.

The weatherman says it’s raining
May 20, 2008 on 3:56 pm | In Weddings Revealed | No CommentsAfter the warm dry start of May, I was really hoping that the weather would stay nice for my Friday wedding, but after the Thursday where it didn’t stop raining I became increasingly doubtful. The forecast was for a showery day! However, I awoke Friday morning to sun streaming through my window and was very relieved to see the weather men at the BBC were wrong! I arrived at the Roebuck Hotel (http://www.theroebuckhotel.co.uk/) to find that Katie the bride wasn’t quite ready… They never are…
But Katie was well worth the wait and she looked absolutely stunning all in white. She was wearing a beautiful dress, a sparkling necklace that her father had given her and was really glowing with joy.
“Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby”
May 19, 2008 on 5:24 pm | In Non-Wedding Events | 2 CommentsNot wishing to turn down work on a Sunday, I attended a Ruby Wedding Anniversary at Fanham’s Hall in Ware (http://www.fanhamshallhotel.co.uk) and took my friend Cheryl along with me as an assistant. She has had some photographic experience in journalism so I left her snapping away merrily. The venue at Fanham’s is fantastic and boasts some of the best gardens in the county.
After a rather wet Saturday I was again surprised that the weather stayed dry and slightly overcast, which is great as it reduces those harsh shadows sometimes causes by harsh sunlight.
Perfect at Pearse House
May 12, 2008 on 2:48 pm | In Weddings Revealed | Comments OffAfter the perfect weather on my first wedding of the season I was not disappointed by my second wedding. Another beautiful May Saturday and this time the wedding was all at one location, Pearse House (http://www.pearsehouse.co.uk/). Yvette and Dennis wanted a casual selection of photographs and asked if I could capture the emotion of their special day. I do enjoy being less intrusive and the freedom of taking a more journalistic style of wedding coverage. Although I still included some formal group shots, but I do get these done quite quickly as I know this can be a hassle for all involved if they go on too long.
As with most venue based weddings, the registrar was very accomodating with regards to the photography which meant I could capture the ceremony up close and personal. The flowers were supplied by Shirley’s Flowers in Sawbridgeworth (http://www.shirleysflowerdesigns.co.uk/).
