Sunny by the sea
May 26, 2008 on 5:45 pm | In General Information | Comments OffFor the bank holiday weekend I decided to have a short break by the sea. I went to the south coast to the small seaside town of Swanage in Dorset where my folks live. While most of the UK was getting the usual wet and depressing weather which seems to be traditional of bank holidays, I was blessed with some very warm, and most of the time sunny spells.
Swanage is on the Purbeck coast, sometimes referred to as the “Jurassic Coast” as the cliffs host many fossils and geographic history. The local stone is used on many of the buildings and really does make everything look very traditional.
I do enjoy taking photographs of everyday things especially when they are eyecatching. Swanage is a well looked after town which is appealing for tourists and visitors.
Whilst in the area I also visited Lulworth Cove which is a very dramatic landscape, although the weather did turn a little overcast.
Whilst at the cove I noticed a tree decorated in all the left over buckets and spades which must get washed up over the season.
Whilst out walking I noticed a beautiful backlit background and was able to get this portrait.
After a very relaxing weekend I headed home and decided to take the Sandbanks ferry across the mouth of Poole harbour. As I was waiting for the ferry we noticed a fantastic sunset over the harbour, so I reached for the camera and got these results.
Whilst on the ferry, which is only a 5 minute crossing I managed to capture some more stunning sunsets.
I do like it if something in the foreground can break up the image slightly and right on cue a boat came trawling past.

Sunset at night
May 22, 2008 on 10:11 pm | In General Information | Comments OffWhilst out and about on a rehearsal meeting with a bride and groom at St. Mary’s All Saints Church at Lambourne I noticed a fantastic sunset and couldn’t resist taking some photographs. I guess once a photographer, always a photographer…
I did have a play with the exposures to get the best results from the sky and to really get some good silhouettes.
By focusing on the flowers in the foreground using full zoom the sky has blurred to give a great pastel feel.
The shot above gives a similar effect but this time with slightly less blurring of the sky.
By using the foreground as a silhouette it really does add to the composition of the photograph.
As I continued on my journey home I saw the sunset radiating around a group of trees and had to pull over again to take these last two shots.
I do enjoy capturing sunsets and with a little bit of under exposing you can enhance the look of your final picture.

RT Weddings latest magazine advertisement
May 22, 2008 on 10:01 am | In Wedding Shows and Magazines | Comments OffI am always keen to change the style and ideas for my advertising and as an ex-graphic designer always put these together myself using Adobe Photoshop CS (http://www.adobe.com). Although I have experience with QuarkXpress (http://www.quark.com/) and Adobe Illustrator, I now find Photoshop can do everything I need quickly and easily. With my latest halfpage advert for “Your Herts & Beds Wedding” (June/July 08) edition and “An Essex Wedding” (July/August 08) magazines I have chosen to go with a more minimalist approach in comparison to my previous designs and utilise some of my evening portraiture shots which reflect the emotion and fun aspect of the celebration.
I should also give some credit to Cheryl who gave me some great advice and assisted me in putting the design together as she was looking at it from a woman’s perspective. My previous design was a quarter page advert, again trying to be slightly different, I made the advert look like a bridal magazine front cover. Again fairly minimalist, with my main key services and benefits displayed.
As you can see below from the following adverts that I’ve placed, I tended to put in probably too much information about my services and this may have detracted the reader as opposed to catching their eye. Having said that, the response to my previous adverts has been quite good, and has kept me with a busy calendar for 2008
I think the progression of my adverts throughout 2007-2008 has been an improvement. May main aim now is to encourage the reader to visit my website (http://www.rtweddings.co.uk) where I have all of my wedding information including services, pricing and packages rather than trying cram the advert with this information.
